We made it! Both our instructor candidates passed PADI’s Instructor Exam last weekend in Mactan. Congrats to “Le Instructeur” Hassaine and “Subic” Kent! We again have a 100% passing rate.
I personally think that PADI does a good job in eliminating candidates who should not be instructors, due to their lack of diving skills. Competent neo-instructors usually pass the Instructor Exam. Everybody has slightly jittery nerves in such a situation, but I found IEs to be collegial, fair affairs. So I had no doubt that our guys would pass. They had certainly put in the hard work and I saw them perform well underwater – with the usual harmless but comical glitches, which shall be revisited over beers in years to come.
The Course Director – Carl Fallon – and staff at Abyss Scuba Diving in Sydney where I did my own IDC will always be in my heart as the people who helped me become a diving instructor. Any future visit to Sydney will surely involve a trip to the pub next to Abyss! Equally, I hope that our candidates will keep in touch.
Our November IDC will for the first time be held in English and German.
